Straw to Sprouts: Mushroom Farming Trial

A few years ago, Sreeba learnt the about mushroom cultivation, a skill we recently remembered while pondering what to do with the leftover straw from our last paddy harvest.

Here’s how we’re putting that knowledge into practice:

  1. Chopped the straw into fine pieces and sterilized it in boiling water.
  2. Sterilized straw was then packed into plastic covers.
  3. Layered mushroom seeds around the edges of the covers.
  4. Sealed the covers tightly and placed in a dark environment.

We expect it to take about a week for the mushrooms to start sprouting. During this time, we’ll need to regularly spray water to maintain the right conditions. We’ll keep you updated on the progress as the mushrooms begin to grow.
